The HND in Healthcare Practice provides a combination of specific knowledge and skills relevant to effective practice in Health and Social Care combined with employability skills and academic learning. The programme emphasises a ‘hands on’ approach to Health and Social Care themes and is highly vocational; all students have to undertake work experience as an integral part of the programme. It is therefore an ideal course for those wishing to advance their career in Health and Social Care, develop their specific interests within the sector or equip them to undertake additional and higher responsibilities.
A feature of the programme is the wide range of teaching methods and learning skills that you will experience over the duration of the two year study period. There will be a combination of lectures, group discussions, report writing, personal research, problem solving and work based learning. You will be expected to undertake a significant amount of self-study for assignments but at all times you will have the support of the College’s very experienced and dedicated tutors. There will be both individual and group study sessions. All assessment is by assignments and there are no formal examinations. You are given feedback on your work and progress at regular intervals in order for you to achieve your full potential.
There are a wide range of options available for students who successfully complete their HND. With the stress on employability skills students are able to enter employment in the Health and Social Care sector for which there is an expanding demand for qualified professionals. If you are already in employment then the qualification will enable you to gain possible promotion through your ability to undertake higher responsibilities. Alternatively there are many university courses in the sector which you will be able to enter with an HND for a one year top-up- to a BA/BSc award.
